After leaving deviantART for nearly a year without giving any sort of notice, I have decided to come back and start posting stuff here again. I've been developing my artistic style, so my new work should look a bit different -- and hopefully better -- than the old.

Also, in the months I've been gone, I've reevaluated my life and goals, which has resulted in my developing an interest in politics. Expect political fan art.

Last time, I wrote about how I'd just come back from Mathcounts, and would soon afterwards be off to the North American Discworld Convention. This time, the news is similar: I've bought a membership to the Discworld Convention in Birmingham, UK, next year. However, it was on the condition that if I couldn't raise enough money to pay my way there and back, we would have to sell the membership. Fortunately, I'm also off to the Math Prize for Girls at MIT in a couple weeks, and could win $1,000 or more. That isn't very likely, though; it takes the top female math students in the country up through high school, and I can barely hold my own on the state level

Also, I'm getting very into filing, accounting, secretaries, bureaucracy, and the like. Expect art re: this.

I am so, so sorry. I really am. I have not written a journal entry in months, and that's after posting a whole bunch of information about stuff and leaving everyone hanging. I need to stop doing that.

Anyway. About the Mathcounts state competition. Good/bad news. Our team came in fifth out of about 50 total. The team that moves on to the nationals, however, is composed of the top 4 individuals in the competition (of which there were about 230). And wouldn't you know it, I came in 5th. I even joked with another kid there about how I would probably be just one slot away from making the team, but I never thought it would actually happen, y'know? Sigh... but I'm more or less over my disappointment. I suppose 5th place out of the whole state is pretty good, anyway. And it was my last year, but I said I was one grade higher than I really was, sooo....

Enough of that. Now for some happier topics. Such as the Discworld convention. Some of you may know about a group called the Dark Clerks (modeled after Lord Vetinari's clerks in the books) that is present at other Discworld cons (such as the UK one). There are no DCs at the North American con, though. At least, not until now! Yes, I am establishing and running the first-ever NADWCon branch of the DCs! The thing is, for the people at the NADWCon - including the ones running it - all my information about the DCs (i.e. that they exist) is news to them. And the structure in which they operate at the other cons kind of doesn't exist here. So I'm kind of stuck setting up and planning everything myself. I'm doing pretty well for myself, though; we're even doing the paperwork for the charity auction. So if you're going to the con, look for the Dark Clerks there!

I've finally decided I'm going to cosplay Drumknott for the con. Pictures will be posted. It'll be my first cosplay, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's at least kind of not terrible.

On a related note, I've started my first dA group, Vetinari-And-Clerks. We've only got 13 members so far, but I'm sure we'll grow! If you're a Discworld fan, by all means check it out!

More on the subject of math competitions, I'm leaving day after tomorrow for the University of Iowa to compete in the ARML competition. It's technically for high school people, but I got a sufficient score to make the team, so I'm on. (Granted, it's only the D Team, but still, better than nothing, right?)
